'GONG XI FA CAI'

"My Friends, My Colleagues, My Comrades"

1. My friends, my colleagues and my comrades
Living harmoniously for many a decade
Some are class-mates, some neighbors
Doing each other kind favors.

2. They are called- 'Boon, Chin and Tan'
We also have "Chu, Lee and Wan'
Must not forget 'Yong, Tay and Swee'
Others are 'Shu, Yein and Lwee',

3. We also have the Burmese names
Sounds familiar to be the same
Min (Ming), Aung (ong) San (Sun) and Lu (Loo)
Kaung (Kong), Yin (Ying), Lin (Lim) and Yu (Yoo).

4. We call each other 'Sway-Myo-Pauk-Phaw'
Living peacefully observing the law
Though now spreading all over the GLOBE
'Rendezvous Burma' one day WE HOPE !!

End results were no-honey
Without collateral, no firm bond
No re-payment, they all abscond !!

Transforming it into a vivacious loop
Alumni, the world over, got excited and frenzy
Reunited thus, becomes an extended family.

Be a WINNER reaching new heights.

2. 'Peace at last in our homeland
All races free from tyrannical hands
Thus becomes happy productive souls
Free from FEAR, WORRIES no more.

3. Church bells toll, friends we meet
Joyful revellers fill the streets
Smiling faces all over the place
Motherland regains her splendour and grace'.

4. A sweet DREAM how much I cherish
My heart sinks, knowing it now vanish
Where is HARMONY? Where is PEACE?
Seems too FAR, difficult to reach.

1. Heard a story while we were young
An old man and his five sons
A bundle of sticks he asked to bring
Encircling him they formed a ring

2. Each was then told, the bundle to break
To let them know how hard it takes
Taking their turns, although they tried
Nothing happened, gave up and sighed.

3.He then dispensed one stick to each
Had a lesson for all to teach
When bundle was open breaking was easy
No big effort is then in needy

4. He said - UNITED we STAND, DIVIDED we FALL
Take this to the HEART, for you all
UNITY always with ALERTNESS on
Even when - I am dead and GONE.

Working for a Good Cause

1. A short message said - ' Raymaond is ill'
Queries from four corners began to fill
Slowly the 'story' from homeland unfold
Worries unabated, the breath we hold.

2. 'DH' Fever affecting young ones
Some even lost their daughters or sons
Situation worsens and turning bad
'Desperation' sets in, feeling so sad.

3. Though living or working all over globe
When need be, 'We' in unity mode
Contacts made, thus raising donations
'Alumni' the world over send 'contributions'.

4. United 'We' stand, giving a Hand
Rendering assistance to our 'mother land'
Working tirelessly heart and soul
To save as much 'lives' is our 'Main Goal'.

(A big salute to all working/contributing in this noble endeavour)

Mother, I miss you.
Never a day gone by, that I have forgotten you.
You’ve been always with me, at home, at work, and in my dreams.
You fed me when I was small.
You nurtured me during adolescence.
You looked after me during sickness.
You consoled me when I feel sad.
You encouraged me when I met failures.
You brought me up as a fine son.

Never a day went by that I have forgotten you.
You were with me on my graduation day.
You were with me when I started working.
You were with me when I got married.
But I left you when I have to move overseas.
Even then you wore a forgiving smile without saying a word.

Never a day gone by that I have forgotten you.
Indeed you are my best guardian.
You are my best teacher.
You are my best guide.
You cooked the best food I ever had.
I still remember your wrinkle face.
I still remember your subtle movments.
I still remember your scribbled writings.
I still remember your gracious looks.
Mother, how can I forget you?

(A tribute to all teachers)

1. Let me introduce to our teacher
Who is also a guardian and preacher
Guiding and nuturing from a youthful age
To raise us up with a healthy image.

2. As soon as the morning bell tolls
He started his routine - heart and soul
Never does he skips a single day
Sickness and malady are kept at bay.

3. He may be tired, his voice may wimper
His zest and zeal, nothing gets dimmer
Never to be seen in fits or rage
Happy and contented on not so high a wage.

4. His loving kindness is like a mountain
Goodwill from him flows like a fountain
He looks after us as one of his own
His empathy towards us is very well known.

5. Hearing the success of his 'daughters and sons'
He beams as though ' a war was won'
He is now overjoyed and highly thrilled
His life seems to be thus fulfilled.

National Day

1. Today is our National Day
Denouncing the tyranny who foul play
Our elders boycotted the 'Varsity Act'
That dwelled upon discriminatory facts.

2. Student leaders decided at 'Tine-ta-yar' Kyaung
'Nat' (National) edu-system has to be found
Strikes, Demos started and rippled
Authorities got shaken and crippled.

3. In utter defiance of the 'Brit' (British) rule
Patriots set up their own 'Nat' (National) Schools
The country complied the 'Unity' call
Forcing the 'imperialists' to slip and fall.

4. 'A monument' in Shwe-Da-Gon is there still
Proud recollections began to fill
So, let's not forget our 'Union Day'
Setting 'Nat' edu-system then, in righteous way.

Patriots At Heart

1. We left Burma (Myanmar), years ago
While conditions decline more and more
Leaving relatives, colleagues and friends
When to meet?? could not comprehend.

2. Our childrens' future were then bleak
Overseas employment we had to seek
Long before one could settle
Had to endure long tedious 'battles'.

3. Because we left our mother country
Some thought we are selfish and greedy
Facing ever worsening conditions
'Going Abroad' seems the best option.

4. Though living afar, 'we love' our country
Always the 'BEST' , we wish 'HER' to be
Whenever, there are good/bad news
Our feelings/thoughts always with you !!

Once peaceful, rich and grand
Whilst overpowered by colonial rule
Sadly, she became one of her tools.

2. Aung San, Bogyoke, with clear foresight
Made nationalities and tribes unite
Differences settled, problems left behind
'Panlong' treaty was finally signed.

3. Thus born a prosperous, sovereign country
For all the world to see and envy
Alas, our joy short lived and slashed
'DEMOCRACY' abolished, HOPES were dashed.

4. Her offspring now spread the world over
Yet, in our hearts, love forever
to the motherland, which gave us 'SIGHT'
Pray... one day SHE regains 'DEMOCRATIC RIGHTS'.

1. Today -'Tha-Din-Kyut' full moon day
We, Burmese, celebrates in religious way
Temples, pagodas flooded with pilgrims
All citizens, all ages, up to the brim.

2. Our 'Lord Buddha' returned from preaching
Sermons and doctrines in the teaching
To welcome 'His' coming the way had lights
The path was shown shining and bright.

3. Towns and cities put up the shows
Colourful lanterns make up the glow
Youngsters thrilled, having much fun
Collecting donations they deservedly won.

4. To elders we 'Bow' requesting forgiveness
Misdeeds resolved and to get 'bless'
Though living apart, far... far.. away
Yet, never forget our 'auspicious' day.

From a country which is not my own

A beautiful land rich in resources

We then were in youthful prime
Meet.. greet.. studied together
Happy days... joys forever.

2. Years passed by, we graduated
Gaining experiences, time compensated
Nurturing a family - to needs we attend

Of a benefactor which whom I met,
He looked dashing, stocky and smart
His name was 'Dr T.K.Dutt'.

2. Taught us Anatomy on Abdomen and Pelvis
Looks like Delip Kumar, but not 'king' Elvis
Got married to a much, much young lady
Perhaps, he then was 50 years may be.

3. 'Let it be me'. the bride she sang
Strikes his 'heart' with such a bang
Happy and excited, to what he hears
Beaming he smiles, from ear to ear.

4. Oh Saya! Now that you are gone
We, your pupils, are still in mourn
Your voice, your acts we 'll always remember
As though - 'you' - with us forever, ever.

A Day to Remember (19th July)

1. Let's not forget that 'DAY' in July
When our national heroes untimely die,
All over Burma, flags flutter half-mast
Reminding of our sorrowful past.

2. 'Nationalities and 'tribes' graciously unite
Joined their hands to claim the rights,
'Pin Lon' treaty was signed and done
Our precious 'Independence' is sure to come.

3. But then.... an cowardly act did takes place
Mother country seemed to lose her face,
While expecting 'a great day' yet.. to born
Our leaders got assassinated and gone.

4. '19 JULY' - a day to remember
Deep inside our hearts for ever and ever,
Let's pay homage to our great SONS
Without them, 'FREEDOM' shall never be won.

A Day to Remember (7th July)

1. How can I forget the 7th of July
When most of my friends 'untimely' die
We students demonstrated to get our rights
Yet, they crushed us with all their might.

2. Shots were fired round after round
'Varsity environs' became the battle ground
Innocent blood were shed to last drop
The trigger happy hands shall never stop.

3. Not being content with all the killings
They then demolished the 'Union' building
Now that our treasured 'mile stone' was gone
Wish to say 'a new monster' is born.

4. 'A Black Day' indeed for us all students
They tied our hands and stopped our 'movement'
Our Heads are Bloody, but we UNBOW
WE SHALL OVERCOME - we solemnly vow.
